The word ‘elixir’ was originally used solely for the compound prepared in infinite variations by pharmacists for purely medicinal purposes. Rosolio was an entirely different matter, it was a sweeter and more ‘feminine’ drink made by master liqueur makers as an alcoholic beverage served when entertaining at home or on social occasions. In recent years the distinctions have become blurred, leaving the way for complex and harmonious recipes in which bitter and digestive notes combine with more approachable and refreshing flavours. Our rhubarb and mint elixir is inspired by this late 19th century tradition. Carefully crafted, completely natural, free of preservatives and colouring agents.
