About Bluecoat

Introducing Bluecoat Gin, a testament to the craft and innovation of Philadelphia Distilling, the first distillery established in Pennsylvania since the days of Prohibition. Founded in 2005 by Andrew Auwerda and Timothy Yarnall, Philadelphia Distilling set out to revive the art of distillation in a region steeped in rich distilling history.
Bluecoat American Dry Gin, the flagship offering from Philadelphia Distilling, made its debut in 2006.
First and foremost, Bluecoat prides itself on its dedication to quality and craftsmanship. Distilled five times using a blend of four grains: barley, corn, rye, and wheat, Bluecoat starts with a neutral base spirit that serves as the canvas for its signature botanical infusion. This distillation process ensures a smooth and refined spirit, setting the stage for the infusion of selected botanicals.
Speaking of botanicals, the recipe for Bluecoat Gin remains a closely guarded secret, known only to a select few. However, what we do know is that it features a harmonious blend of traditional botanicals like juniper, coriander seed, and angelica, alongside citrus notes that lend it a refreshing and vibrant character. Every botanical used in the production of Bluecoat Gin is sourced from certified organic sources, ensuring the highest quality and purity in every bottle.
But what about the name Bluecoat? This distinctive moniker pays homage to the soldiers of the Continental Army who fought valiantly during America's War of Independence. Inspired by the iconic blue uniforms worn by these brave soldiers, Bluecoat Gin embodies the spirit of patriotism and resilience that defines the American experience. The gold piping featured on the label mirrors the intricate details of the soldiers' uniforms, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to the brand.
