OLD FASHIONED

The ‘original’ cocktail, or rather, the original way of making cocktails as described in a newspaper in 1803 which described the new way of drinking. This is the first mention of the word ‘cocktail’, by describing a concoction of a spirit, sugar, bitter and water. When more ‘cocktails’ were being created, some patrons would ask the bartender for a cocktail made the old fashioned way, being a simple mix of spirit, sugar, water and bitters. Hence, we now call this simply ‘an old fashioned’, but it also describes a style of cocktails.
