Merlet C² Cassis symbolise the Merlet's expertise as a blackcurrant grower. Gilles Merlet started to experiment with blackcurrant cultivation in 1979. This was a real bet as this plant originally grows in cold regions. The Saintonge region is then the southerly limit for its cultivation. In 2015, the blackcurrant liqueur obtained the “Crème de Cassis de Saintonge” Geographical Indication. For the family, this is a recognition of 30 years of unique expertise in cultivation and transformation of the blackcurrant into a liqueur. Merlet C² Cassis is the result of the marriage of VSOP cognac with “Cassis de Saintonge” (blackcurrant) infusions from Distillerie Merlet. The infusions used are the same as those used for the Merlet Crème de Cassis de Saintonge. The blend of cognac with homemade cassis infusions gives to this liqueur many complex aromas.

Nose: the powerful fruitiness of the blackcurrant comes first. Then, comes the evolved side of the cognac which brings to the overall some Kirsch and old Madeira notes.
Mouth: the first mouth is also very much predominated by the power of the blackcurrant, then we move on to jammed blackberry flavours. Pleasant balance between alcohol and sugar. The cognac lengthens the aftertaste and leaves at the end a cheering warmness.
