About La Progresiva Mezcla 13
Following the signing of an official Joint Venture Agreement between brand owners The Island Rum Brands and the Cuban Government (only the second time in Cuba’s history this has happened) and with access to over 7,000 barrels of aged Cuban rum, full permission was given to the two women who spearhead the production and blending at the facilities located in Ciego de Avila, central Cuba. Together they created over 50 different blends they thought really showcased just how good Cuban rum can be. After being tasted and ranked, it was blend 13 (Mezcla 13) which triumphed. Using a blend of 3 rum bases with liquid aged from 5 to 15 years, our female master distiller and female master blender personally created and named La Progresiva due to the progressive steps being taken by The Island Rum Brands Co. at allowing female Cuban rum makers to take centre stage.
Production take place bewteen our distillery (first built in 1944) in a province in the heart of the Island, Ciego de Avila, with some aging taking place at Finca Vigia just outside Havana. It is here that some of the 7,000+ barrels are left to age longer to be used in the final blend of la Progresiva Mezcla 13 rum which we get to share with the world. The true spirit of Cuba and its people bottled.
