VIEUX CARRÉ

Another classic New Orleans cocktail, named after the French quarter within the city, also referred to as ‘Vieux Carré’, meaning ‘the old quarter’, as the French quarter is the oldest part of the city. Created in 1938 at the famous Carousel bar in New Orleans, the cocktail pays tribute to the sazerac by using bóth rye whisky and cognac, and pays homage to the French heritage with the inclusion of Dom Benedictine. The creator, Walter Bergeron, wanted to create a cocktail that would invoke the feelings of old world romance.
